Scenario Overview:
Another great scenario that tests airway management in a patient who has taken a concoction of alcohol and other recreational drugs. The first aiders are called into a cafe to a young female who is reported as very drunk. On arrival, the patient is slumped on a chair and voice responsive, occasionally vomiting. A patient's relative is also on scene and says that the patient has been drinking all day and might have taken other stuff but not really sure. The nearest first aid post (HCP led) is about 300m away with no vehicle access to the cafe.
Difficulty:
First Aider Moderate
How the scenario should progress:
After the initial primary survey has been done, the patient will deteriorate in response and (if not already there!) will fall on to the floor. Patient will vary between voice and pain responsive from then on.
Patient 1:
Name: Billie Barnett    Age: 18    Sex: Female
Medication: No usual medication. Patient has reportedly drunk a whole bottle of jack daniels and a few tablets of something (not that the patient wants to tell the first aiders about those).
Allergies: None Known
Past medical/family/social history: Not known
Findings on examination: Patient is initially voice responsive but will become pain responsive and then fluctuate after the initial primary survey. A mixture of vomit and snot partially blocks the airway as the patient occasionally vomits. If attempted, the patient will not tolerate an OP because of the fluctuation in response. Patient has no injuries on a top-to-toe survey. Pupils are dilated but do react slightly to light and are equal.
Possible treatment from first aiders: Good airway management. Repetition of the primary survey. Moving and handling skills to transport patient to first aid post.
Time after start: 0 mins 1 min onwards

Tips for the patient actors:
Try and make it a bit difficult for the first aiders. Even when voice responsive you won't give very much information.
